HydroPlan was commissioned to undertake a detailed irrigation design for the new prestigious cricket stadium. The 25,000 capacity cricket stadium is lit by more than 350 floodlights. The state-of-the-art system has now been installed into the rim of the roof of the stadium, creating what could be described as a 'ring of fire' which lights up the field of play. The design is such that it prevents any distracting shadows of the players. The stadium is one of the most advanced of its kind in the world and the International Cricket Council (ICC) has been involved at all stages of the design process to ensure that the stadium meets the relevant specifications for hosting international cricket fixtures.
Although famous for being the central venue to the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, Stadium 2000 holds many varied sporting and social events. Therefore, designing the irrigation system proved a complicated task.
