Beijing Presidential Golf Club

The Presidential is an 18-hole Championship course on the beautiful Yanqi Lake where the Great Wall touches Beijing. Construction was completed in only 9 months to be ready for the APEC Economic Forum Summit 2014. Prior to the critical spring growing season, trenches were cut into Beijing’s frozen winter and hundreds of thousands of cubic metres were moved to transform the flat site before topsoil and turf could be laid down.

HydroPlan was engaged by Gary Player Design for the detailed design and documentation of the irrigation system, the drainage system and associated water transfer systems. The scope included the golf course, the surrounding landscapes and the clubhouse. HydroPlan also provided services such as tender assessment, translations, training and site inspections. Drainage management is crucial because Yanqi Lakes stores drinking water for Beijing.

HydroPlan completed all designs within a tight schedule, but even more importantly we then worked closely with Gary Player Design, Flagstick, Pan China and many others during the very short construction phase of 9 months.

For example, we provided all documentation in Mandarin and English to be sure the details were understood by all parties. We also organised and facilitated two days of intensive training for the contractor and owner to ensure they understood our specifications of how components were to be assembled, installed and commissioned. We arranged international manufacturers to also demonstrate successful application their products in seminars.

It was a privilege to be part of the impressive team that transformed and preserved this spectacular site. The iconic golf course and Yanqi Lake Kempinski Hotel will be a renowned destination that will get even better with age.
