Cairns Esplanade

A large project which involved the irrigation of reclaimed areas of Trinity Inlet and the Cairns Foreshore.

The project includes an esplanade and foreshore promenade component.

The esplanade project incorporates a large swimming lagoon to provide a year-round safe swimming and recreation area with lifeguards, nature viewing areas and increased open parkland.

The foreshore promenade plans include a boardwalk, playground, landscaping and pavilions devoted to the region's history, culture and natural environment.

The exact extent of the irrigated area could not be confirmed in the initial design phase, so a decoder control system was utilised.

This allowed modification and extension of the irrigation system as needed.

It is the first decoder system used in the Cairns area and has proved very successful.
