Spanning 18 kilometres, the Angurugu to Alangula high pressure pipeline provides the sole source of water for local indigenous communities and the GEMCO mine. The pipeline was originally constructed in the 1970s and, having corroded significantly, required replacing in 2010.
HydroPlan undertook the initial concept design taking into consideration factors such as future demand and energy scenarios. After testing the performance of the pipeline through hydraulic modelling, our team developed the detailed designs, navigating features such as haul roads, bridges and creeks. Additional challenges including ensuring continuity of supply during the construction of the new pipeline, and alignment constraints – issues that were managed through periodic site visits by HydroPlan engineers.
