HydroPlan was commissioned for detailed design of an automatic irrigation system for the prestigious cricket stadium at Dubai Sprts City, the world's first city built just for sports.
The 25,000 capacity cricket stadium is lit by more than 350 floodlights. The state-of-the-art system creates a 'ring of fire' which lights up the field of play and prevents any distracting shadows of the players. The stadium is one of the most advanced of its kind in the world and the International Cricket Council (ICC) has been involved at all stages of the design process to ensure that the stadium meets the relevant specifications for hosting international cricket fixtures.
Water distribution is critical in this desert environment to ensure the turf remains uniform and manageable despite traffic, shade and localised issues. Part circle sprinklers were incorporated around the centre wicket squares to apply the correct amount of water to the differing soil conditions of this critical playing surface.
